Sheet music from the tin press?

Blechpresse in German means ‘sheet metal press’ in English. When you think of a sheet metal press, you think of a tinsmith. Someone who angles sheet metal, brings it into shape. Perhaps a sheet metal press also produces a mould for a brass instrument? None of that is true. The brass press is a publishing house that specialises in printing sheet music for brass instruments. The publisher loves brass ensembles and especially the low brass. It was founded by Stefan Kaundinya in the beautiful town of Böblingen in southern Germany.

Stefan Kaundinya studied tuba with Ulrich Haas (Folkwanghochschule Duisburg), Prof. Walter Hilgers (Hochschule für Musik Weimar) and Stefan Heimann (Musikhochschule Stuttgart). He was a member of several youth orchestras, had trainee or temporary contracts with the Philharmonie Essen, the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra and the Saarbrücken Radio Symphony Orchestra (today: Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern). From 2003 to 2007 he was employed by the Police Music Corps (today: State Police Orchestra) of Baden-Württemberg. Since 2007 he has been living in his hometown Hamburg as a freelance tuba player and teacher for tuba and tenor horn. In 2006 he founded the music publisher Blechpresse, which publishes sheet music for brass instruments. Since 2009 he has also been working with the rare historical instrument ophicleïde, a 19th century precursor of the tuba. He has also participated in numerous CD productions, for example with the brass quintet Elbeblech, the tuba quartet Gebrüder Ohrentaub, the Baden-Württemberg Police Music Corps, the Oldenburg State Orchestra, the Saarbrücken Radio Symphony Orchestra and others.

As a music publisher, the focus is on ensemble literature, as well as the sector for all those who want to specifically train depth and sound: The vocalises by Marco Bordogni, so popular with brass players. Various CD recordings can be found here.
