Anne Frank was a Jewish German girl who fell victim to the National Socialist genocide at the age of 15. She fled with her family from Germany to the Netherlands in 1934, after Hitler's seizure of power, and had to hide in an Amsterdam back building after the invasion of the German troops. There she also began to write her diary, which is still considered a historical document of that time. On August 4, 1944 the hiding place was betrayed, the whole family was arrested and one month later deported to Auschwitz. In March 1945 Anne Frank died of typhus in the Bergen-Belsen camp.

For the composer it was a great concern to deal with Anne Frank's life. He had two daughters of the same age and a father who was born the same year as Anne Frank. How politics and racial mania intervened in the life of an innocent girl should never be forgotten. In times in which the existence of mass extermination camps is doubted, old idols are worshipped again and racism is on the rise, there can never be enough works of art to commemorate. Anne Frank was a girl like most in her time, with all her worries, fears, dreams and wishes. She had to die because she belonged to a different race and did not fit into the system.
