Programme notes *: additional text

The wombat is a 60 to 100cm long and approx. 25-30kg heavy marsupial (relative of kangaroo and koala bear), which is mainly native to south-eastern Australia and Tasmania. The wombat is nocturnal, lives in self-dug burrows up to 20m long, eats only plants and their roots and has strong, constantly growing incisors. Its stocky, strong body shape and mostly brownish-grey hair, its stunted tail and strong limbs make it look a bit like a bear. Unfortunately, these cosy and cute creatures are also threatened with extinction.

The piece of music is intended to bring out just this clumsy and cosy nature of the wombats.
